Abstract

The restoration of cultural heritage damage by disasters needs to be judged from a different perspective from general repairs, and different principles need to be applied depending on the characteristics of cultural heritage. In this paper, the author compared and analyzed the principles applied to each case, focusing on the recent analysis of the oversea’s restoration cases of cultural heritages damaged by disaster. Based on the results of the analysis, a set of principles that are commonly stated is summarized as follows: ; 1. Introduction of modern materials and technologies based on respect for existing techniques and materials, and improvement of cultural heritage’s disaster response capacity based on them; 2. Reconstruction of cultural heritages as a physical form, and recovery of related intangible elements such as techniques, technologies and communities. These principles will be a priority for restoration project of cultural heritage which is damaged by disaster.

재난으로 인한 문화재 피해의 복원은 일반적 수리와 다른 시각에서 접근할 필요가 있으며, 문화재의 특성에 따라 각각 다른 원칙이 적용될 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근 해외에서 진행된 재난피해를 입은 문화재의 복원 사례에 대한 분석을 중심으로 각 사례에 적용된 원칙을 비교 분석하였다. 이들에 대한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 공통적으로 언급된 원칙을 정리하면 다음과 같다. ; 1. 기존 기법과 재료에 대한 존중을 전제로 한 현대적인 재료와 기술의 도입, 그리고 이를 토대로 한 문화재 재해 대응력의 향상; 2. 물리적 형태로서의 문화재 복구, 그리고 이와 관련된 기법, 기술 및 공동체 등 무형적 요소의 회복. 이러한 원칙은 국내 문화재의 재난 피해 복원에 우선적으로 참고할 수 있을 것이다.
